Tornado warning for northwest Williamson County, northeast Burnet County
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for the northwestern edge of Williamson County and the northeastern corner of Burnet County until 5:45 p.m.
A tornado warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by a weather radar, and you should take shelter immediately, according to the NWS.
There’s also a severe thunderstorm watch for the Austin area until 9 p.m. The watch includes Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, Burnet and Lee counties.
The main threats are lightning, wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail up to the size of tennis balls.
A severe thunderstorm watch means storms are capable of forming, and you should be prepared to take action if it progresses into a warning. A severe thunderstorm warning means there is “imminent danger to life and property,” and you should take shelter immediately, according to the NWS.
